Tefond - Water Proofing and Protection

Tefond SeamTefond is a High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)  waterproofing and protection membrane. It is used alone or in conjunction with bituminous membranes, to protect a variety of building and civil engineering structures, from the ingress of moisture. It is also used as a remedial measure to control dampness in existing buildings.

Tefond is produced in black HDPE with a bituminous sealing strip to ensure total protection. It is supplied in 20 metre rolls which cover 1890mm (allowing for a double lap). The membrane is patterned with it's characteristic 8mm high studs. These studs act as lock effectively "zipping" the lap joints together, with only hand pressure required to close them. The studs ensure that an air space is maintained between the membrane and the face of the structure to be protected. It is this space that is the key to the success of the Tefond system.

The Tefond membrane is lightweight and extremely tough, weighing only 700 g/M2 it has an impressive Compression Resistance of 300 KN/M2, this allows the membrane to withstand the immense pressure created by backfilling, or the weight of a floor slab.

Tefond WallTefond is used in the following situations:

Waterproofing of Basement Walls.
Waterproofing of Floor Slabs.
Waterproofing and Protection of Retaining Walls.
Acting as an Acoustic Barrier between Screed and Floor Slab.
Remedial Damp proofing of Existing Walls.
Lining Planters and Roof Gardens.
Separating Layers in the Build Up of Road and Rail Embankments.
The Construction of Hydraulic Channels, Drains and Canals.
Tunnel and Culvert Construction.

Basement Walls.

The Tefond Membrane is frequently used to prevent moisture ingress to basement structures. It may be used alone or in tandem with a bituminous membrane, which it protects from sharps in the backfill.

Floor Slabs.

Ingress of moisture via the floor slab may be prevented by using a protective barrier of Tefond before pouring of the slab. This method is often used in areas with a high water table.

Retaining Walls.

The passage of moisture through a retaining wall is one of the most frequent methods of failure. Tefond will resist the huge hydrostatic forces allowing drainage via land drain or weep holes.

Acoustic Barrier.

Tefond may be used as an acoustic barrier by eliminating any direct mechanical linkage between a floor slab and it's screed or floating timber floor. Dampness is eliminated by the passage of air through the void.

Remedial Works.

Tefond may be used as lining to the walls of damp rooms. It can be covered with plasterboard or even supplied with a scrim to which plaster coats will adhere.

Roof Gardens.
Tefond may be used to prevent the uncontrolled escape of water from planters and roof gardens. It will also act as a protection to other membranes from sharp stones in the gravel layers used in horticulture.

Road / Rail Construction.

Separating layers of different properties is essential in developing bearing capacity. Tefond will separate soil layers and prevent the leaching associated with the passage of water.

Hydraulic Structures.

Tefond may be used to separate layers in the construction of canals and drains. It's use will prevent the leaching of contaminants from drain to ground water and vice versa.

Tunnels & Culverts.

For aesthetic and engineering reasons it is necessary to waterproof tunnels. Tefond's rugged ability makes it ideal for use on such civil engineering applications.
